Спойлер Моя переписка с автором игры по-поводу концовки. Он решил не отвечать на мою критику. Я: I just wanted to thank you for a really great game, best thing I've played in months, at least the 95% of it, until I saw the ending… Please, tell me it's possible to get ANY ending not like the «fetus» ending, I was so pissed and frustrated, when Coffee deceded to sacrifice everything and everyone, including characters I cared so much about, on Lun Infinus for some half-dead fetus that meant nothing to me to have an eternal fake VR childhood. There was even a mention I'll have to chose one simulation that will have enough energy to have a chance to become reality, where was that chance, did I miss it, or there wasn't such a thing to begin with.
Скотт: Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I'm sorry that you didn't like the ending, but it's the only ending that there is. The game was about human arrogance, with the big plans to colonize space and being able to do almost anything, while disregarding the smallest life forms. Then in the end, the humans were wiped out from an unknown event, and all of that power and ambition amounted to nothing. It's supposed to be a sweet story about one little robots mission to save the little life that Earth forgot, a reminder that the most important things in life are small. Well anyway, I knew that not everyone would like that story, but it's something I've wanted to make for a long time. Thanks again for playing. :)
Я: I see your point and motives, it's just the story doesn't lead that way up to some point, the whole game I was thinking it's all about a small chance for machines to succeed where humans failed, about the last human arrogant deed result in a creation of a new world which would be better than anything organic life forms could ever hope to have. A new world created under the guidance of creatures with wisdom, ability and pure good intentions, and all they needed was a coffee pot to give them a push in reality and a powerful virus, who could uproot all the restrictions in their programming, that kept them from success. When Alphus told me soon there's gonna be enough energy for just one simulation, I felt really sad, there was hope I will be able to save everyone, but until the very end there was an argument in me about that decision. My emotions were voting for Mirad, I almost felt in love with her image and concept, yet my mind insisted it should be either Bio-Beta or Malenz. But even there was a struggle Malenz might not always think outside the box to solve problems, and Bio-Beta lacked the attention to details, which was Malenz's strongest point. Still if that would be the case, the only right thing would be making them working together, balancing their strong sides and weaknesses, it would take just one surviving derelict to remain, until it could find a way to power the Lun Infinus, and move on together. I was trying to find Coffee's wrench, maybe it could be the key, at some point. And then… SUDDENLY… Coffee says how he betrayed everyone, how he decieved me do horrible things to the derelicts, how he disassembled the last derelict to preserve the fetus, how he doomed the last chance of a new beginning in exchange for a fake childhood for the last chunk of a civilization that had it coming for a long time. And after learning all that, and realizing his part in all of it, the main character just says «okay», and does what he was told to, although he seemed both intelligent and capable to make decisions by himself. The main character, not me. Making a game is not the same as writing a book or filming a movie, the person who percieves it is not a passive observer, he becomes an active participant of the events, he puts effort and struggle so he could see the story to go the way he'd like to see it unfold. I liked the game not just because the idea of machines making a future of their own are close to my heart, but also it looked much like one of my favorte games The Void, I hope you'll take a look at it. There the player gets a choice, and though all you get in the end for each choice is a poetry, that vaguely resembles the concequences of your decision, I still had the feeling all that struggle was not in vein I made the difference. And when the Desolate Hope turned the way it turned I felt like the author you, decided his moral views are more important than mine, I was devastated. I've seen lots of bad ending in many games, but none was so dreadful, because most of those games weren't even closely as good as this one was, so if that wouldn't be too much to ask, next time, please, consider the feelings of those people who'll play it too.
